Robert Schwartzwald is Professor of English Studies and an Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the Université de Montréal. From 1997 to 2004, he served as Director of the Center for Crossroads in the Study of the Americas for the Five College consortium of western Massachusetts, where he was also Professor of French and Francophone Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Co-author of Fictions de l’identitaire au Québec, Editor in Chief of Quebec Studies from 1996 to 2000, and of the International Journal of Canadian Studies / Revue internationale d’études canadiennes from 2000 to 2006, his numerous publications on relations between literary and national modernities have appeared in Canada, the United States, Europe, Mexico, and Brazil. In 2008 he was the recipient of the Governor General’s International Award for Canadian Studies.
