What role does empathy play in the construction of stable peace? How important is it? This panel examines these questions from a variety of perspectives: first, the perspective of social science (macro); second, the perspective of social action (meso); and third, the perspective of what might be called “inner self” or “state of mind” (micro). Is empathy a necessary condition for peace? A sufficient condition? Necessary and sufficient? Merely helpful? Irrelevant?
