Symbolic Peace

Chair: Mark B. Salter

This panel will look at the markers of peace, and in particular what counts as the limit between peace, security, and war. In the face of quotidian violence and underdevelopment, and the emergent, intertwining public and private practices of security, what counts as peace? Specifically, we look at the ways that particular forms of violence and insecurity have come to be understood as peace, focusing on popular representations of the ‘everyday’.
